Greek words often have multiple meanings in English. So a clause may be translated either “If [blah blah blah]” or “since [blah blah blah]”. Of course, this distinction is very important when doing biblical translation. But I’m not translating right now. I’m just thinking about life…
Think of the difference between saying, “if I am …” and “Since I am …” One is a possibility and one is a declaration. The difference is in how I view myself: perhaps vs. for sure! Much of the time, I view my life in terms of “perhaps.” What would happen if I thought and acted in terms of “for sure…?” It might be an interesting thing to find out. Oh, there I go with “perhaps” again…
