Disability Awareness Resources

Both in my work and during my time spent running personal errands, I devote a lot of energy to educating people about what it is like to live with disability and chronic illness. It seems natural for me, in light of this, to devote space on my personal site to these things.

Instead of answering the common questions people ask me when I am out and about, though, I would like to use this space to challenge you to journey deeper into the experience of life with disability and illness. Our society has become broken economically… Those of us who are dependent on health care and often on other forms of public assistance, and on the willingness of people to extend positive expectations toward us in the hiring process struggle daily against an onslaught of negative messages and experiences The struggle is not only to keep from our own woundedness but also to keep from committing wounds in return in our efforts to cope.

heals from its economic brokenness as we learn to understand one another. I speak for those who need understanding; and I hope to bring together other voices who speak out. Please read; and please come into the experience for the time that you spend here. It is not an easy one to share.
